What is expungement?

Expungement is the act of sealing a criminal conviction from public view. That means you are no longer required to disclose a conviction on a job application, and it shouldn't appear on a background check.

Will my record get cleared?

It may not. Qualifying for criminal record expungement in Tennessee is difficult and complicated. Most people who apply do not qualify. But it’s free to check, and we’ll help you figure it out.

Who qualifies for expungement?

At minimum, you cannot have more than two (2) convictions on your record; you must have fulfilled all court obligations, including payment of all costs; and it must be at least five (5) years since you completed your sentence. If you completed diversion, you are eligible immediately. Other factors, like the type of conviction, may also disqualify you.

How does it work?
